Perplexity Computer on Android: What is it, how to use and everything else to know

Perplexity has rolled out its Computer feature for Android users, expanding the agentic AI tool to all major platforms after earlier availability on web and iOS. The feature is designed to function like a digital worker that can handle complex, multi-step tasks on behalf of the user rather than just responding to prompts. With the availability for mobile devices, users can now access this tool to monitor, and manage AI-driven work directly from their smartphones, with real-time syncing across devices, allowing projects started on a laptop or tablet to continue seamlessly on mobile.

But what exactly is a Perplexity Computer? Unlike AI chatbots which offer information based on user prompts, Perplexity Computer is an agentic AI tool that can do full tasks for you. Simply put, instead of answering one question at a time, this AI agent will let you describe what you want done. For example you can ask the tool for researching competitors, making a presentation, writing code, or organising data, and the AI handles the whole process on its own.

Perplexity notes that the Computer tool runs entirely in the cloud and works like a virtual computer environment. Every task is performed inside a secure sandbox that has access to a browser, file storage, and integrations with services like Gmail, Outlook, GitHub, Slack, Notion, and Salesforce. Because the work happens remotely instead of on the phone itself, users can continue using their device normally while the AI completes the job. The cloud-based setup also means progress is saved continuously and can be accessed from any supported device.

One of the key features of Perplexity Computer is that it does not rely on just one AI model. Instead, it uses a mix of different AI systems for different types of work. For example, Anthropic’s Claude is used for reasoning and coding tasks, Google’s Gemini helps with research, while OpenAI models are used for long-context understanding and text generation. So in order to give users best results, Perplexity Computer automatically chooses which AI model to use for each step, so the task gets done more efficiently. According to Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas, the focus is on combining multiple AI tools together rather than depending on a single model to do everything.

How to use Perplexity Computer on Android

To use Perplexity Computer on Android, users need to install or update the Perplexity app from the Google Play Store, sign in, and subscribe to the Max plan, which is required to access the feature.

Notably, while Perplexity also offers a Pro tier, the Computer tool is not included in that plan and is currently limited to higher-tier subscribers.

Once enabled, the Computer option will appear inside the app. From there, users can type what they want done in plain language, and the system will begin working on the task automatically.

Users can track progress in real time, and any tasks started on other devices will automatically appear in the app as well, thanks to cross-device syncing.

Perplexity Computer price and availability

Perplexity Computer is currently limited to Max subscribers, which makes it a premium offering rather than a standard AI tool. In India, the subscription costs around $167 per month (roughly Rs 15,400) or the equivalent local price through Google Play billing. The plan includes a monthly credit system that determines how much work the AI can perform. Users get 10,000 credits per month, along with promotional bonuses, and tasks pause automatically if credits run out, resuming once more credits are added.
