OnePlus is said to shut down in these markets, should Indians worry?

Rumours around OnePlus don’t seem to slow down. Just when things had gone quiet, a fresh claim has once again put the brand in the spotlight. This time, it is about OnePlus possibly shutting down in a few global markets. The update comes from tipster Yogesh Brar, who shared on X that the company is preparing to reduce its presence in certain regions, leaving many users wondering what this means for them.

According to the post, OnePlus is likely to continue business as usual in China, but things may not look the same everywhere else. Markets like the US, UK, and parts of Europe could be affected if these claims turn out to be true. For India, the situation appears different. The tipster suggests that the company may continue operating here, but with more focus on budget and mid-range phones instead of premium flagships.

“OnePlus is shutting down in select Global markets..China business will stay unaffected. India market will mostly get budget & mid-range products. (Not a good news for US, UK & EU customers),” Brar wrote in his latest X post.

A known tipster is claiming that OnePlus is preparing to shut down in some markets.

While this may sound worrying at first, there is no official word from OnePlus confirming any of it. In fact, this isn’t the first time such rumours have come up. Earlier this year, similar reports started circulating, and the company responded to calm things down, especially for Indian users.

Robin Liu, CEO of OnePlus India, had stepped in back then and clearly said that the company is not shutting down its operations in the country. He called the claims false and assured users that everything is running as usual. The familiar “Never Settle” line made its way into his message too, hinting that the brand isn’t going anywhere, at least in India.

The confusion around all this started after a report by Android Headlines suggested that OnePlus was quietly cutting down its presence in some regions. The report mentioned that shipments had dropped in 2024, a few products were cancelled, and teams in the US and Europe were reduced. It also claimed that key decisions were increasingly being handled from China, which may have led to fewer launches in Western markets.

Some devices were also said to be dropped, including a second-generation foldable and a compact flagship phone. However, none of these details have been confirmed by OnePlus so far.

OnePlus said to shut down: Should Indians be worried?

Right now, there is no clear reason for Indian users to be concerned. OnePlus has already addressed these rumours once and denied them. Even the latest claim does not say that the company will stop operations in India. It only hints that the focus here could lean more towards affordable and mid-range devices. For better clarity on this, India Today has reached out to OnePlus for a comment on this, and we will update the article once we receive an update.

If the fresh rumour is true, it might mean premium OnePlus phones launching in India in the future. Models from the number series or the R lineup may not arrive as often, though nothing is confirmed yet. Whether upcoming devices like OnePlus 16 and OnePlus 16R will make it to India remains unclear for now. At the same time, OnePlus seems to be continuing its work in the mid-range segment. The OnePlus Nord 6 is already being talked about and is expected to launch soon, which shows that the company is still active in the market.

At the moment, this remains a developing story. Until OnePlus shares something officially, it is best to take these claims with a pinch of salt.
