The London-based phonemaker Nothing could be making its debut in the smartglasses market next year. The Carl Pei-led firm is said to be working on AI smartglasses that would likely compete directly against the Meta Ray-Bans. However, Nothing’s smartglasses could follow the company’s unique design language.
As per a report from Bloomberg, Nothing is working on a pair of AI smartglasses that will likely be launched in early 2027. This would expand the company’s product portfolio beyond smartphones and audio devices.
Apart from smartglasses, the company is also said to be working on a new pair of earbuds with more AI features that will likely be launched this year. Do note that in September 2025, Nothing CEO Carl Pei had teased that the company was working on an AI native device for 2026.
Carl Pei did not want to make smartglasses
Interestingly, as per the report, Carl Pei was initially reluctant to develop smartglasses. However, he is said to have changed his mind, and is now focusing on a multi-product strategy for the brand.
The Nothing smartglasses will likely follow a unique design aesthetic similar to Nothing’s other products that feature a transparent theme. Nothing phones are known to come with LED lights or “Glyph Lights” on the back.
Nothing AI smartglasses, here is what we know
The report states that the Nothing smartglasses will likely come with cameras, microphones and built-in speakers, similar to something like the Meta Ray-Bans. An in-built display is unlikely.
The wearable will also need to be paired to your smartphone to connect to cloud services and process AI features. The Nothing smartglasses will likely offer a personalised experience and allow for the automation of certain tasks.
The London-based phonemaker is also doubling down on AI. The company already allows users to “vibe code” – use AI to code – essential apps for their home screen, which work like widgets. Users can then share their creations to others online.
Nothing joins AI smartglasses battle
Nothing is far from the only company looking to enter the smartglasses space. Apple, Google, and Samsung are believed to be developing their own headsets for this segment.
For context, Meta is said to have sold over 7 million units of its smartglasses, that seems to have caught the attention of other tech companies in this segment.
