Meta rolls out affiliate shopping on Facebook and Instagram, creators can make more money now

Meta is rolling out new affiliate shopping features on Facebook and Instagram that will help creators earn more money from their posts and Reels. The Mark Zuckerberg-led company announced the update during the Shoptalk 2026 conference, calling it part of Meta’s bigger push to combine creator monetisation, artificial intelligence, and in-app shopping to turn its social platforms into stronger e-commerce destinations.

One of the highlights of the update is the introduction of affiliate partnerships. It is a new system that lets creators link products from partner marketplaces and earn commissions when followers make purchases. Instead of using link-in-bio pages or external URLs, creators can now tag affiliate products directly inside their content. When users tap on the tagged product, they are taken to the partner’s website or app to complete the purchase, and the creator earns a share of the sale.

Meta says the feature is designed to make product recommendations feel more natural on social media, as users increasingly rely on creators for shopping advice. The company highlights that more than half of consumers say their buying decisions are influenced by creators, which has pushed Meta to build new tools that turn posts and videos into shopping experiences.

Availability of the affiliate feature

The affiliate feature is launching first with partners including Amazon and Shopee, with support for more platforms planned in the coming months. Meta has confirmed that Temu and eBay will be added in the United States, while Mercado Libre will roll out in Brazil and Mexico. Availability will expand gradually to more regions as the programme grows.

In addition to affiliate links, Meta is also adding new insights tools for creators. These will show which posts are generating clicks and sales, helping users understand what kind of content works best. Creators will be able to see product details, expected commissions, and performance data directly from their professional dashboard.

Meanwhile, the company says it is also using artificial intelligence to improve the shopping experience across Facebook and Instagram. When users click on product ads, they may see more detailed descriptions, reviews, and specifications generated with the help of AI. Meta says this will help shoppers make faster decisions without leaving the app.

Checkout is also being simplified. Meta is testing a one-tap “buy now” option that allows users to complete purchases directly from ads. Businesses can connect payment providers such as PayPal or Stripe, making it easier to sell products without building a separate online store. Early partners testing the system include brands such as 1-800-Flowers, Fanatics, and Quince.
