Apple is reportedly preparing to launch its next flagship lineup — the iPhone 18 Pro series — in September. The timeline aligns with the company’s usual launch cycle, as it typically unveils its flagship devices during this month. The lineup is expected to include the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max this year, while the standard iPhone 18 model is likely to debut later, possibly in the spring next year.
The current flagship lineup, the iPhone 17 Pro models, introduced a refreshed design, switching back to an aluminium finish and adding a vapour cooling chamber. This time, the new-generation models are also reportedly set to bring notable design changes, particularly to the Dynamic Island.
iPhone 18 Pro display, design and colours
The iPhone 18 Pro is said to feature the same 6.3-inch OLED display as the iPhone 17 Pro, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max is also expected to retain the 6.9-inch OLED screen from last year. Rumours suggest the iPhone 18 Pro will get a 35 per cent smaller Dynamic Island compared to the last generation. Now, to achieve a smaller Dynamic Island, Apple will likely need to reduce the size of the cut-out positioned beneath it.
Tipster Ice Universe on Weibo pointed out that the iPhone 18 series will retain the same bezel design, but in the case of Dynamic Island, as stated before, it will be smaller. Tipster Majin, who goes by the handle @MajinBuofficia on X, suggested that the smaller Dynamic Island will be called ‘Nano Island.’
Speculation suggests that the iPhone 18 Pro models are likely to retain a design similar to the iPhone 17 Pro. They may continue to feature the same aluminium unibody and a large camera island on the rear.
On the colour front, the spotlight is on a deep red finish for the iPhone 18 Pro. However, tech blogger Apple Club on X suggests that the smartphone could also arrive in three additional shades: Purple, Coffee, and White.
Tipster Instant Digital recently suggested that Apple may not include a black colour option in its next-generation lineup.
iPhone 18 Pro cameras
Apple is likely to stick with a triple rear camera system on the iPhone 18 Pro models, featuring three 48-megapixel sensors — including a primary, an ultra-wide, and a 4x telephoto lens.
However, reports suggest the company could introduce a variable aperture for the main camera, giving users better control over exposure and depth effects. Both the primary and telephoto sensors are also expected to see improvements in low-light photography. Additionally, Apple may adopt a new three-layer stacked sensor, reportedly sourced from Samsung, which could help reduce noise and enhance dynamic range.
On the front, the iPhone 18 Pro is expected to retain the same 18-megapixel selfie camera as its predecessor.
iPhone 18 Pro specification
The iPhone 18 Pro lineup is said to be powered by the alleged A20 Pro chipset. The new chipset will reportedly be built on a 2nm process and is said to deliver up to 15 per cent faster performance and 30 per cent better energy efficiency compared to the A19 Pro.
On the battery front, the iPhone 18 Pro Max is likely to carry a larger battery, approximately between 5,100 and 5,200 mAh.
