Chrome Security Alert: Indian Govt Warns Windows, Mac Users – Update Now

Key Takeaways

  • CERT-In issues high-severity security alert for Google Chrome
  • Vulnerability affects Windows, Mac, and Linux users
  • Update Chrome immediately to versions 141.0.7390.122/.123 or later

The Indian government has issued a critical security warning for Google Chrome users, alerting millions about a high-severity vulnerability that could allow remote attackers to compromise systems.

The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) flagged the security flaw this month, emphasizing the urgent need for Chrome users to update their browsers immediately.

What The Security Warning Reveals

The vulnerability stems from inappropriate implementation in Chrome’s V8 JavaScript engine. According to the official alert:

“This vulnerability exists in Google Chrome due to Inappropriate implementation in V8. A remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending a specially crafted request on the targeted system.”

Both individual users and businesses relying on Chrome for desktop operations are potentially at risk from this security flaw.

Affected Chrome Versions

The vulnerability impacts specific Chrome versions across all major platforms:

  • Google Chrome versions prior to 141.0.7390.122/.123 for Windows and Mac
  • Google Chrome versions prior to 141.0.7390.122 for Linux

Users running any of these vulnerable versions should update their browsers immediately to prevent potential exploitation.

How To Update Chrome Immediately

Google has released patches to address this security concern. To update Chrome:

  1. Click the three-dot menu in the top-right corner
  2. Navigate to Settings > About Chrome
  3. Follow the update prompts to install the latest version

The browser will automatically check for updates and install the security patch, providing protection against this critical vulnerability.
