A humanoid robot named Figure 03 grabbed global attention this week after it walked alongside US First Lady Melania Trump at a White House. The special appearance of the humanoid took place during a summit titled Fostering the Future Together and its presence indeed matched the vibes. As Melania entered the summit, she was accompanied by Figure 03. The robot walked across the red-carpeted hallway, greeted guests, and even spoke in multiple languages, becoming the highlight of the event.
The appearance of Figure 03, the newest humanoid robot the company called Figure, was meant to highlight how artificial intelligence is slowly moving out of phones and computers and into machines that can operate in the real world. Speaking at the event, Melania Trump described a future where humanoid robots could assist in classrooms as intelligent tutors, adapting lessons to each student’s pace and even responding to their emotions. In short, the message was to highlight how AI is evolving from software into something physical that people may soon live and work with.
And as intended Figure 03 stole the spotlight. But what exactly is this humanoid, and what makes it so special?
Meet Figure 03
Figure 03 is the latest humanoid robot developed by robotics company Figure AI. It is also the third generation of the company’s general-purpose robot platform. According to the company, unlike earlier robots that were designed mainly for research or factory work, Figure 03 has been built with the goal of working in everyday environments. The long-term vision is to create a robot that can perform human-like tasks, learn directly from people, and safely operate in homes, offices, and public spaces.
The robot is powered by the company’s Helix AI system, a vision-language-action model designed specifically for humanoid robots. According to the company, the Helix system allows Figure 03 to understand its surroundings, process spoken instructions, and respond in real time instead of relying only on pre-programmed commands. It further highlights that with Helix, the robot can learn from human interaction, recognise objects, and adapt to new situations, making it very different from traditional robots that are limited to fixed tasks.
Features of Figure 03
One of the biggest highlights of Figure 03 is its improved vision and sensing system. The robot uses advanced cameras that give it a wider view of its surroundings and faster response time, helping it move more naturally and avoid obstacles. Each hand of the robot also has built-in cameras and touch sensors, so it can hold objects carefully and adjust its grip when needed. This allows the robot to handle delicate items, making it more precise compared to the older humanoid machines.
With AI and humanoids, safety is always a big concern, and for Figure 03 the company says it was a major focus during the design. Accordingly Figure 03 robot is built using softer materials and protective padding so it can work around people without causing harm. It is also lighter and more compact than the previous version, making it easier to move around in homes and crowded spaces. To make interactions feel more natural, the robot includes improved speakers and microphones for voice conversations, along with wireless charging so it can recharge automatically without cables.

Figure also highlights that the robot has been designed for large-scale production. Earlier humanoid robots were mostly expensive prototypes, but this model has been built with manufacturing in mind. The company says it has simplified several parts and redesigned the hardware so the robot can be produced in higher numbers at a lower cost.
