Crimson Desert players demand change: New patch could finally fix the game’s biggest problem

The early days of Crimson Desert have certainly given rise to a mixed response among the players. And it’s no surprise that this is the case. The open-world RPG game was released with a lot of hype given to it by virtue of the sheer scale and intricacy that the game’s world design offers. There are certainly some aspects in which the game has lived up to expectations. Not to mention the visual appeal that the game offers.

However, there are certainly some aspects in which the game has failed to deliver. One such aspect that has been pointed out by a number of players across different platforms is the game’s control system. Now, the developer has confirmed that they are working on a solution to this problem.

This could certainly be a turning point in the game’s development.

Crimson Desert controls feel overly complicated for basic actions

At the centre of the issue is how basic actions are performed in the game. Players have reported that even simple interactions require multiple button inputs, which feels unusual for a modern RPG. On Xbox consoles, for example, interacting with objects often involves pressing LB and A together. This might seem like a minor inconvenience at first glance.

In practice, it becomes repetitive and slightly frustrating over time.

Most games in this genre rely on a single-button interaction system, which has become something of an unspoken standard. When a game deviates from that expectation without clear benefit, players tend to notice immediately. It disrupts the natural flow of gameplay.

Another concern is the apparent lack of control customisation. At launch, there seems to be no robust option for players to rebind controls according to their preferences. According to GameRant reports, this has been particularly noticeable for keyboard and mouse users, who typically expect a higher degree of flexibility.

Crimson Desert controls patch confirmed but details remain unclear

Following increasing feedback from the community, Pearl Abyss confirmed that it is actively preparing a patch to address the control-related problems. The studio also issued an apology, particularly to players who felt that the keyboard and mouse experience was not up to standard.

The developer is not only aware of the issue but is prioritising it. That said, the exact details of the upcoming patch remain unclear according to X (Twitter) post shared by Crimson Desert official account. It has not yet been confirmed whether the update will fully simplify the control scheme, introduce complete rebinding options, or combine both approaches.

Pearl Abyss shifts stance on Crimson Desert controls after feedback

The response from the developer appears to mark a subtle change in approach. Shortly after launch, a comment from within the studio suggested that the controls would become more intuitive over time, comparing the experience to learning how to ride a bike. That perspective has not entirely disappeared.

Some players may indeed adapt to the system with extended play. Still, the broader reaction indicates that many would prefer immediate comfort rather than gradual adjustment. The latest response from the studio seems to reflect that reality more clearly.

Wider concerns still exist

While control issues have taken centre stage, they are not the only point of discussion surrounding Crimson Desert. According to GameRant, some players have raised concerns about the narrative, which reportedly has not resonated as strongly as expected. Others have commented on the main character, Kliff, who appears to divide opinion. There have also been suggestions that additional features, such as deeper character customisation, would improve the overall experience.

These are more complex areas to address. Unlike control adjustments, which can often be implemented through patches, narrative and character changes typically require more substantial development work.
