Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game now has a locked-in release date. The 2D fighter set in the Avatar universe drops on July 2, 2026, across Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam. The standard edition is priced at $29. 99 or Rs 1,300.
Developer Gameplay Group International confirmed the date with a new trailer at the Evo Awards, showing off gameplay and the full 12-character launch roster. The lineup pulls from both Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra—Aang, Katara, Toph, Zuko, Azula, Sokka, Ozai, Kyoshi, Korra, and Zaheer all make the cut, along with Avatar State versions of Aang and Korra. Five more fighters are planned post-launch as part of a Year 1 Pass.
Each character comes with over 900 hand-drawn animation frames, which is a real flex for a licensed title at this price point. The visual style leans heavily into the look of the original animated series rather than going 3D or cel-shaded.
Rollback netcode and crossplay confirmed at launch
Online play ships with rollback netcode—a significant detail for a licensed fighter, given the genre’s history of dodgy online infrastructure in similar titles. Crossplay is also confirmed from day one, so the player base won’t be split across platforms.
On the single-player side, there’s a story mode and a gallery featuring unreleased art from the franchise. A $59.99 deluxe edition bundles a digital art book, the soundtrack, unique HUDs, and the Year 1 Pass. Pre-order bonuses include a Samurai skin for Appa, exclusive character colours, and voting rights for upcoming Year 1 Pass characters.
The game had a bumpy path to get here—it was first announced without a title in early 2024, reportedly cancelled later that year, and then revived. But with the feature set now locked and the date confirmed, it looks like things have stabilised. July’s shaping up to be a busy month for fighting game fans.
