Apple seems to have some big plans for 2026. The Cupertino giant is expected to expand its product portfolio, not just with the rumoured iPhone Fold, but even with new AI devices, including smartglasses. The company has been rumoured to be working on AI smartglasses for some time now, and it is believed that Apple could take the wraps off the device as early as the end of 2026.
As per a report by Bloomberg, Apple is preparing to take on the Meta Ray-Bans with a wide variety of options. The company is reportedly working on multiple styles and colour options for its AI smart glasses, giving users more options to choose from.
Do note that Apple is not the only company interested in the smartglasses segment. London-based phonemaker, Nothing, is also expected to launch its own pair of smartglasses soon.
Apple AI smartglasses design and colours
According to the report, the AI smartglasses will come without a display, targeting everyday use, akin to the Meta Ray-Bans, internally known as N50.
The design team is reportedly testing at least four frame styles, including large and slim rectangular frames as well as larger and smaller oval or circular frames. The slimmer rectangular frames are rumoured to look similar to the pair of glasses worn by Apple CEO Tim Cook. It is believed that Apple may launch all or at least some of these frame styles.
Colour options expected to be under consideration include black, ocean blue, and light brown. The frames are made of acetate, a durable and premium material, which could set the Apple smartglasses apart when compared to plastic used by rivals, including Meta.
Apple smartglasses expected features
The Apple smartglasses will likely come with built-in cameras, and Siri support. Siri is set for a major update later this year that will allow the AI assistant to run on Google’s Gemini models, adding more functionality.
Apple’s smart glasses will enable users to capture photos and videos, make phone calls, listen to music, and interact hands-free with Siri.
The glasses may feature vertically oriented oval camera lenses with surrounding lights, a design departure from the circular lenses used by Meta. This camera system is intended to support hands-free photography and video, a key feature that has contributed to the popularity of Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses.
The smart glasses are part of a broader AI wearables strategy that includes new AirPods and a camera-equipped pendant. These devices will use computer vision to interpret the user’s environment, enhancing Siri’s contextual responses for features like improved navigation and visual reminders.
Apple smartglasses launch and expected price
Apple may unveil the smart glasses by the end of 2026 or early 2027, with a launch planned for 2027. However, pricing remains unclear for now. To give you some context, the Meta Ray-Bans (Gen 2) start at Rs 39,900 in India.
Unlike Apple’s earlier plans that included mixed reality and augmented reality headsets, this product will be more of a simpler everyday device.
