Apple may finally launch AI-powered Siri at WWDC 2026, standalone app also on cards

After nearly two years, Apple enthusiasts may finally get their hands on an AI-powered version of Siri. Reports suggest that Apple is rebuilding Siri around artificial intelligence, with the aim of transforming it from a traditional voice assistant into a more capable AI agent that can integrate across applications. There are also indications that users might see a standalone Siri app in the future.

Apple recently announced the schedule for Apple Worldwide Developers Conference 2026. According to Mark Gurman, the company could unveil the new Siri on June 8 during the developer conference. The upgraded assistant is expected to be introduced alongside iOS 27 and macOS 27.

Gurman reports that the upgraded Siri is currently being tested internally under the codename Campo. The new system is designed to better understand requests, complete tasks inside apps, access news content, and search the open web using Apple-built interfaces and models.

The upgraded assistant is also expected to interact with users in a more conversational, chat-like format using both text and voice.

A redesigned Siri interface

Apple may not change how users activate Siri, it will likely still work through the power button or voice commands. However, the company is reportedly working on a redesigned interface that could replace the glowing edges effect introduced in iOS 18.

Apple is also said to be testing a version where Siri appears at the top of the Dynamic Island. While Siri processes a request, a pill-shaped search indicator may appear. Once the request is completed, results could be displayed in a larger translucent panel featuring Apple’s Liquid Glass design. Gurman notes that the design could still change before the final rollout.

Another major change being explored is replacing Apple’s existing on-device search system, Spotlight, with Siri. If implemented, this would allow Siri to become a more central search and assistance tool across Apple devices.

Apple may launch a standalone Siri app

Gurman also suggests that Apple is testing a standalone Siri app for devices including the iPhone, iPad, and Mac later this year. The app could allow users to access their past interactions directly. According to Gurman, previous conversations may appear in the main interface either as a list or as a grid of rounded rectangles with text previews.

Most features in the standalone Siri app are expected to resemble those found in existing chatbots. These could include the ability to upload documents for analysis, switch between voice and text modes, mark favourite chats, save older conversations, search across interactions, and start new chats.

The report also suggests deeper integration of Siri across system apps. An “Ask Siri” toggle may allow users to send selected content directly into a new Siri conversation. In addition, a “Write with Siri” option could appear at the top of the keyboard menu, allowing users to generate or edit text using the assistant.
