After OpenAI deal, Amazon now launches Health AI to help users with medical questions and doctor advice

Amazon has launched Health AI, a new artificial intelligence-powered assistant which will help users understand their medical information, ask health-related questions, and connect with healthcare providers. The tool is now being rolled out in the United States through Amazon’s website and mobile app.

According to Amazon its new AI-powered tool, Health AI is a conversational health assistant designed to simplify how people access and understand healthcare information. Users can ask this AI assistant about symptoms, medications, diagnoses, or lab test results, and the AI will provide explanations in simple language.

The tool also integrates with services from One Medical, the primary care provider that Amazon acquired in 2023. Through this integration, users can be directed to medical professionals if their query requires clinical attention.

In some cases, the system can help users schedule appointments or communicate with doctors through One Medical’s services.

Amazon explains that the Health AI uses artificial intelligence models trained on health information to break down complex medical terms and provide easy-to-understand guidance.

For instance, users can upload or refer to medical information such as lab reports and ask questions like “Can you explain my cholesterol results?” or “What does this diagnosis mean?” Health AI can then explain the data, outline possible causes of symptoms, and provide general information about treatments or medications.

The assistant can also answer everyday health queries, such as guidance for mild symptoms like cough, congestion, or sore throat, and suggest potential next steps.

How users can access it

To use the feature, individuals need to create or sign in to their Amazon Health profile. Once logged in, they can type their health-related questions directly into the Amazon website or mobile app.

Do note that Health AI on the Amazon website and app is currently available only to users in the US. It is expected to expand in the coming months. The service is available to all users regardless of whether they are Prime subscribers.

Amazon Health AI features

Explaining lab results and diagnoses: Users can ask the assistant to interpret medical reports, test results, and diagnoses.

Medication information: The assistant can provide details about medications, including their purpose, common uses, and potential side effects.

Symptom guidance: Users can describe symptoms and receive general information about possible causes and recommended next steps.

Doctor connections: If a situation requires professional care, Health AI can guide users toward connecting with healthcare providers.

Privacy and data protection

Because Health AI handles sensitive medical information, Amazon says the system has been designed with privacy protections in place. According to the company, the AI models work on abstracted patterns rather than directly identifiable personal data.
