Thunder guard Alex Caruso hit with technical foul for bizarre reason during game against Magic

The game between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Orlando Magic had no shortage of highlights. Thunder guard Alex Caruso found himself in an unusual situation after losing his shoe during a scramble.

As the Thunder held a slim lead, Caruso stayed locked in on the play. Instead of stopping, he picked up his loose sneaker and continued defending the possession. Seconds later, he attempted something rarely seen on an NBA floor. The play drew instant attention from officials as he was hit with a technical foul.

Alex Caruso attempts a block with his shoe

The bizarre moment occurred with just over four minutes left before halftime. As Orlando pushed the ball inside, Alex Caruso slipped and lost his left shoe.

He recovered quickly and stayed in the paint, tracking the drive from Tristan da Silva. When the Magic forward went up for a layup, Caruso swung his shoe and made contact with the ball.

The defensive effort worked at first glance. The ball came loose and flew out of bounds. Caruso even reacted with a smile, aware of how unusual the play looked. The officials, however, had to punish the move. Using any object other than the body to influence play falls under unsportsmanlike conduct.

The result was a shooting foul and a technical foul on Caruso, with Orlando awarded points and a free throw.

Thunder defeated Magic, clinching the 13th playoff spot

The game continued to swing after halftime, with Orlando mounting a push behind Paolo Banchero. The Thunder responded well as their star guard, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, delivered 40 points and controlled the entire game in the closing minutes. Chet Holmgren added 20 points and 12 rebounds, providing support on both ends.

Oklahoma City secured a 113-108 win, extending its streak and continuing a strong run through the season. The victory was very crucial for the team, as with the result, the Thunder officially clinched a playoff berth, becoming the first team this season to lock in a spot.

Caruso’s stat line remained modest, yet his impact stretched beyond numbers. He finished with key rebounds and defensive plays, along with one moment that will likely be replayed across broadcasts. This season, the Thunder secured a stunning 54 wins and only 15 defeats while the Magic ended the night with 38-30.
