The United States were crowned freestyle skiing mixed team aerials champions on Saturday (21 February) at the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics 2025. Kaila Kuhn, Connor Curran and Christopher Lillis delivered a superb performance in the Super Final. They finished with a combined score of 325. 35 points. Switzerland claimed silver, while the People’s Republic of China secured bronze. The victory marked a historic night for Team USA at the Winter Games.
This gold medal was the 11th for the United States at Milano Cortina 2026. It set a new American record for most gold medals won at a single Winter Olympics. The previous record was set at the Salt Lake City Games 24 years ago.
The triumph was also special because the USA had not won a medal in aerials earlier in the Games. But in the mixed team event, they rose to the occasion.
Team USA deliver under pressure to seal historic gold at Milano Cortina Winter Olympics 2026
The American trio showed calm and confidence in the final. Although the lineup was different from the gold medal team at Beijing 2022, Christopher Lillis was the only returning member. Still, the team made no mistakes. They executed three strong jumps in the Super Final to defend their Olympic title.
Switzerland, represented by Lina Kozomara, Pirmin Werner and Noé Roth, won silver with 296.91 points. It was their first-ever medal in the mixed team aerials event. Roth added a second medal to his collection after winning silver in the men’s individual competition earlier in the Games.
People’s Republic of China, featuring Xu Mengtao, Wang Xindi and Li Tianma, finished third with 279.68 points. China had entered the final with high hopes after winning gold in both the men’s and women’s individual aerials events.
They had also won silver in the mixed team event at Beijing 2022.
In the qualifying round, the USA were dominant. Kaila Kuhn opened with a back-full-full-full and scored 106.89. Connor Curran followed with a clean back full-double full-full. Christopher Lillis then delivered an even better jump. The team posted a combined 351.23 points, well ahead of China, Australia and Switzerland.
However, scores reset before the Super Final. The Americans had to repeat their brilliance. Kuhn scored 94.44 in the final round. Curran followed strongly. Lillis sealed the win with a back double-full-full-full. He celebrated after sticking the landing. The United States landed six straight clean jumps across qualifying and finals. It was a night to remember for Team USA.
