The Pakistan Cricket Board has rolled out tough new regulations for the upcoming 2026 Pakistan Super League season. Under these updated rules, all players and team staff are now strictly barred from meeting family members inside the official team hotel unless they obtain formal approval from the board at least 24 hours before the planned visit.
Security Breach Triggers Immediate Action
This administrative tightening follows a notable security breach at one of the team hotels. The issue first drew widespread attention when Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza, who is playing for Lahore Qalandars this season, shared a social media post thanking the PCB for granting permission for a family meeting at the hotel.
PCB Issues Urgent Notice to Franchises
Soon after the post appeared, the PCB quickly sent an official notice to all eight participating franchises and tournament officials. The communication served as a strong reminder to strictly adhere to the existing security protocols.
Late-Night Incident Raises Concerns
The situation reportedly intensified after an incident late last Saturday night involving Lahore Qalandars captain Shaheen Shah Afridi and Sikandar Raza. According to sources, four guests were found inside Sikandar Raza’s hotel room, which amounted to a clear violation of the established safety measures.
Law Enforcement Flags Security Risks
This lapse prompted senior law enforcement authorities to express serious concerns to the PCB, cautioning that such breaches could weaken the overall security arrangements meant to safeguard players and officials.
PCB Warns of Strict Consequences
The PCB has now made it absolutely clear that any future violations will not be accepted. To handle family interactions more securely, the board plans to set aside designated areas within the hotels specifically for such meetings.
Clear Guidelines on Family Access
A source close to the developments told PTI:
“The Board has made it clear that anyone wanting to meet with family members in the hotel has to seek permission 24 hours before the intended visit by family members.”
The new guidelines also spell out exactly which family members can enter a player’s private room. The same source added:
“The Board has also made it clear that only a player’s wife, parents, brother and sister are allowed inside the players room, that too after getting clearance from the Board 24 hours in advance”.
Security Remains Top Priority for PSL
These measures reflect the PCB’s firm commitment to maintaining the highest standards of security during the PSL. With the tournament approaching, all franchises have been directed to ensure complete compliance with the updated protocols among their players and support staff.
The move aims to prevent any repeat of recent lapses while allowing limited and properly approved family contact in a controlled environment. Security remains a top priority for the league, especially with several international players taking part.
