Sayali Satghare relishes special 2026 journey: From WPL glory to Perth Test debut

India Women pacer Sayali Satghare has opened up on how the last few months have been incredibly special for her. After being released by Gujarat Giants, Satghare went unsold in the 2026 Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction. However, her fortunes changed when Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) signed her as a replacement for Ellyse Perry, who withdrew from the tournament due to personal reasons.

Satghare went on to enjoy a memorable campaign, helping RCB lift their second WPL title. She then made her Test debut in the pink-ball match against Australia at the WACA in Perth alongside Pratika Rawal, Kranti Gaud, and Kashvee Gautam. Looking back on the journey, Satghare said that while winning the WPL was a special moment, making her Test debut for India was a dream come true.

“The last two-three months have been very special. After [winning the] WPL, I got a Test debut, and if you are debuting on a ground like WACA, it is a dream for any fast bowler. And representing India in any format is a dream come true,” Satghare told ESPNcricinfo.

SATGHARE REVEALS HER SPECIAL WICKET

Satghare was India’s standout bowler despite the visitors suffering a 10-wicket defeat. The right-arm pacer impressed with figures of 18.4-2-50-4 in the first innings, generating plenty of movement with the pink ball. She later said her favourite wicket was Georgia Voll’s, whom she castled with a sharp inswinger.

Satghare also felt she could have dismissed Alyssa Healy earlier. In her second spell, she pinned the Australia skipper on the pads with a ball that nipped back in, but India’s review showed it had pitched outside off stump. She eventually had the last laugh, though, as Healy miscued an expansive off-side stroke to Jemimah Rodrigues.

“If you ask [me which wicket was] more special, I think it was the bowled dismissal [of Voll]. But I feel the lbw appeal against Healy was very close. If she had been out, it would have been even more special because it was her last game, [and, as it turned out] her last innings. She is a legend of the game,” Satghare added.

Satghare made her ODI debut against Ireland in Rajkot last year and has since picked up three wickets in as many matches at an economy rate of 4.65. While she has already represented India in Tests and ODIs, the bowling all-rounder is yet to make her T20I debut.
