Arjun Tendulkar, the son of the legendary Indian batter Sachin Tendulkar, is preparing to launch a new chapter in his Indian Premier League career with the Lucknow Super Giants. The all rounder from Mumbai, who first appeared in the IPL in 2023 for the Mumbai Indians against Kolkata Knight Riders, moved to the Lucknow franchise through a trade worth INR 30 lakhs this past November. In a recent discussion, Tendulkar reflected on his time spent with the Mumbai squad.
Tenure with Mumbai Indians
Initially acquired by Mumbai Indians at his base price of INR 20 lakh during the 2021 auction, Arjun’s first season was cut short by an injury. Although the franchise re signed him the next year, he spent the entire following season on the sidelines. His debut finally arrived in 2023, where he played four matches, claimed three wickets, and drew attention for his proficiency in swinging the new ball.
Despite being retained for the 2024 season, his involvement was limited to a single appearance where he failed to take a wicket and conceded 22 runs in his two overs of bowling.
Frustrations and New Beginnings
During a conversation on Shubhankar Mishra’s podcast, the cricketer was questioned about the lack of consistent playing time with the five time champions. While acknowledging the disappointment of being a substitute, he maintained a professional outlook.
Tendulkar remarked:
“Who doesn’t feel that? No one wants to sit on the bench. But we want to work hard and perform when we get a chance.”
As Lucknow Super Giants prepare to open their 2026 campaign against the Delhi Capitals this Wednesday at the Ekana Stadium, Tendulkar remains hopeful that this fresh start will translate into more time on the field.
Stance on the Impact Player Rule
Arjun also weighed in on the controversial Impact Player regulation, joining senior figures like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in expressing disapproval of the system.
He stated:
“Pick 11 and play. Because in international T20s, and in any other league, there is no Impact Player. So, I am personally against the Impact Player rule.”
