MS Dhoni comeback earlier than 2 weeks? CSK star back training at Chennai

Chennai Super Kings fans were left intrigued on April 1 after visuals of MS Dhoni at training began circulating online, hinting at a possible early return. But the timing also raised a familiar question: was this genuine progress or simply an April Fools coincidence?

The franchise had earlier confirmed that Dhoni would miss the first two weeks of IPL 2026 due to a calf strain. “MS Dhoni is currently undergoing rehabilitation for a calf strain,” CSK said in a statement ahead of their opening game against Rajasthan Royals.

DHONI BACK AT TRAINING

One of the clips shows Dhoni walking out with his kitbag during a net session, a sight that quickly grabbed attention. While there was no official update on his fitness, the mere presence of the veteran at training added fuel to speculation about his recovery timeline.

Another visual shows Dhoni spending time in the nets, facing a few deliveries in what appeared to be a light session. He seemed to be easing into his shots, focusing more on rhythm and timing rather than going full tilt, indicating a controlled return to action.

The timing of the videos, emerging on April 1, led to mixed reactions among fans. While many saw it as a positive sign that Dhoni’s return could come sooner than expected, others questioned whether the clips were recent or simply recirculated to coincide with April Fools’ Day.

There has been no official confirmation from CSK suggesting a change in the original recovery timeline, keeping the buzz largely speculative.

CSK FEEL HIS ABSENCE

What is certain, however, is the impact of Dhoni’s absence. CSK suffered an eight-wicket defeat to Rajasthan Royals in their opening game, after being restricted to just 127 on a pitch that had been under covers due to rain.

Captain Riyan Parag opted to bowl first, and his side made full use of the conditions to keep CSK under pressure throughout. The five-time champions failed to build partnerships, with only Jamie Overton offering resistance with a steady 43.

The loss underlined the value MS Dhoni brings, not just as a finisher but as a calming presence in the middle.
