“Having Josh Allen”: Buffalo Bills’ New Safety Geno Stone Credits Josh Allen Factor Behind His Move From Joe Burrow’s Cincinnati Bengals

The Buffalo Bills added safety Geno Stone, and his reason stood out right away. This was not just about a new contract or scheme. Stone pointed straight to Josh Allen as a key factor behind his decision to leave the Cincinnati Bengals.

It came out during a media interaction after Bill’s signing. Stone did not stretch his answer. He kept it short, but the message carried weight.

Josh Allen’s influence shapes Geno Stone’s Buffalo Bills decision

In his recent interview, Stone credited Josh Allen’s presence and the Bills’ culture as the real reason for his signing. As per Andy Young’s Twitter post, which reads, “Newly signed #Bills S Geno Stone on why he chose Buffalo, cites relationships with fellow former Iowa Hawkeyes Micah Hyde and A.J.

Epenesa in his decision-making. “Me getting back into a winning culture… having Josh Allen on the other side of the ball. ”

That line sums up his thinking. Stone’s last two seasons in Cincinnati Bengals did not go the way he wanted. He joined the Bengals in 2024 after a strong stint with the Baltimore Ravens. His numbers stayed steady, but the team slipped. Cincinnati finished 9-8 in 2024 and then fell to 6-11 in 2025. Through that period, Stone still delivered.

He recorded 104 tackles, two interceptions, and a defensive touchdown in 2025. He also accepted a pay cut before the season to remain with the team.

Still, the results were missing. That pushed him to look elsewhere. Buffalo gave him a clearer path. Stone pointed to Allen’s presence as a major reason behind the move. He also leaned on feedback from former Bills safety Micah Hyde, who shared insight about the team’s environment.

New defensive role with the Buffalo Bills gives Geno Stone a clear purpose

The move also ties into changes on Buffalo’s defence. New defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard laid out an aggressive plan during his introductory press conference in March 2026. His focus stays on forcing turnovers and dictating play.

Stone fits that role based on his production. Across six seasons, he has 14 interceptions, 21 pass breakups, and over 300 tackles.

“They’re going to use me to my strengths… that’s why they brought me in: to go get the ball,” Stone said in the same interaction. Buffalo’s free agency approach supports that plan. The team added C.J. Gardner-Johnson, Bradley Chubb, and Dee Alford to reshape the unit. For Stone, the choice comes down to fit and direction. Buffalo offers both, with Allen at the centre of it.
