England put their faith on data, video analysis in semi-final against India

England captain Harry Brook said on Wednesday, March 4, that his team will be relying heavily on data when they go up against India in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup. England, who topped their Super 8s group, are set for a steep challenge against the hosts, who look close to hitting their peak form at just the right time in the tournament.

Brook, when asked about how England are going about their plans ahead of the game, said that they have sifted through a lot of data and would use it to make life uncomfortable for the Indian batters.

“Yeah, we obviously get a lot of stats, we’ve got a lot of videos, we can see where the batters are trying to hit the ball, we know the wagon wheels and what not, we know the match-ups. It’s just about trying to manoeuvre the bowlers in a way that makes it uncomfortable for their batters for as long as possible, really. They’re obviously a very good side and they can adapt to different bowlers, but my job is to try and make it as uncomfortable for them as possible,” Harry Brook said at the press conference.

England played their last three matches in Sri Lanka, on the turning tracks of Pallekele and Colombo. The team now returns to the Wankhede Stadium, where they were given a run for their money by Nepal in their opening game of the tournament.

England will hope for their batters to raise their level against India on Wednesday. Senior batters Jos Buttler and Phil Salt will be hoping to find their top gear against a strong Indian bowling attack.

India vs England begins at 7 pm IST on March 5. The winner of the game will take on the winner of South Africa vs New Zealand in the summit clash in Ahmedabad.
