Esha Singh Wins Asian Shooting Gold, Secures Paris 2024 Quota

Esha Singh Secures Paris 2024 Quota with Asian Shooting Gold

India’s Esha Singh clinched the women’s 10m air pistol gold medal at the Asian Shooting Championships in Jakarta on Tuesday, securing a crucial quota place for the country at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Key Takeaways

  • Esha Singh won gold with a final score of 243.1.
  • The victory earned India its 17th shooting quota for Paris 2024.
  • This is the fourth quota in the women’s 10m air pistol event.
  • India has now won 10 gold medals at the ongoing championships.

Dominant Performance in Jakarta

The 19-year-old shooter from Hyderabad dominated the final, finishing ahead of China’s Jiang Ranxin (241.6) and South Korea’s Kim Bomi (219.9). She had earlier topped the qualification round with a commanding score of 584.

Quota Scenario and Indian Contingent

Esha was the sole Indian to qualify for the final. Rhythm Sangwan (577) finished 11th, while Surbhi Rao (571) was placed 24th. The quota secured by Esha is the fourth for India in this specific event, with Rhythm Sangwan, Manu Bhaker, and Palak having already earned the other three spots.

Double Gold Day for India

Esha’s triumph marked India’s second gold of the day, following Sarabjot Singh’s victory in the men’s 10m air pistol event. However, Sarabjot could not add to India’s quota tally as the country had already maximized its two available spots in that event through and Arjun Singh Cheema.

India’s shooting squad continues its strong showing, having now secured 17 quotas for the upcoming Paris Games.
