Western disturbance to bring early rain on Wednesday, snow in the Himalayas

Parts of North India could see rainfall late Tuesday night and early Wednesday, along with light snowfall in the Himalayan states, as changing seasonal conditions bring localised weather activity over the next couple of days.

According to weather updates shared by Devendra Tripathi, founder of Mausam Tak, some snowfall is likely in parts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, while the plains of north India may experience light rain and thunderstorms in isolated locations.

In the plains, southeastern Punjab, including Ludhiana, Patiala, and nearby areas, may see rainfall, along with several districts across Haryana, including Hisar, Sirsa, Fatehabad, Sonipat, Rohtak, Panipat, Karnal, Gurugram, Faridabad, and Palwal, as well as Delhi and the NCR region.

Weather activity may also extend into western Uttar Pradesh, with rainfall chances from Meerut to Lucknow and Bahraich, and possible showers in Agra, Kanpur, Mathura, Jhansi, and Lalitpur. Northern Madhya Pradesh could also see isolated rainfall, particularly in Bhopal, Ratlam, Gwalior, Rewa, Sidhi, and Singrauli.

Devendra Tripathi, weather expert for Kisan Tak, noted that northern and eastern Rajasthan may receive light rainfall in a few places, but emphasised that the overall intensity of the system is not expected to be very strong. Despite some reports suggesting widespread heavy rain alerts, no major rainfall event is likely across the region, he said.

However, with the season approaching a transition period, isolated thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds and occasional hailstorms cannot be ruled out, particularly over the northwestern plains and parts of northern Madhya Pradesh. These conditions may develop if dense cloud clusters form, although current atmospheric conditions suggest only limited activity.

Meanwhile, a separate weather system near the Bay of Bengal is bringing heavy rainfall to Sri Lanka and may trigger rain in coastal Tamil Nadu and Kerala, including Thanjavur, Cuddalore, Kanyakumari, Thiruvananthapuram, and Kochi.

Cloud cover could gradually extend toward Bengaluru, Chennai, Puducherry, and Coimbatore, with rainfall possible in the coming days.

Most other parts of India are expected to remain largely dry.
