A significant Western Disturbance is set to impact northern India this weekend, bringing widespread rain and snowfall starting Saturday, January 31. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued forecasts for several states, warning of potential disruptions.

Rain and Snow Forecast for Hill States

The weather system will deliver light to moderate rain and snow across Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. Isolated heavy snowfall is very likely over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad on January 31 and February 1.

Impact on Northern Plains

In the plains, scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall is predicted for Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Rajasthan on January 31 and February 1. Punjab may experience isolated heavy rainfall on Saturday.

The IMD also forecasts isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall over Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh on February 1 and 2.

Dense Fog and Temperature Changes

Meanwhile, dense fog conditions are likely to continue in isolated pockets over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar during morning hours for the next 2-3 days.

Minimum temperatures are expected to rise by 2-4°C over most parts of Northwest India during the next three days, followed by a drop of 2-4°C. Over Central India, no significant change is expected in the next 24 hours, with a subsequent rise of 2-4°C.
