Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Sunday launched a blistering attack on Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi over his Gen Z remark, stating that it doesn’t “befit” him to speak of the young generation as it was them who ousted Congress from power.

Calling India’s Gen-Z “sensible and smart”, the Union Minister said that they stand with the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and not Congress. Rijiju added that the youth will never tolerate Congress, accusing it of keeping the nation “poor” for six decades.

In an interview with news agency ANI, Rijiju said that Gen Z’s anger is directed towards those who are not “capable” enough but want to run the government, in an apparent reference to Congress.

“It doesn’t befit Rahul Gandhi to speak of Gen Z. The young generation has ousted them from power. Gen Z means the new mindset of a new generation – it stands with PM Modi. India’s Gen Z is against the control of this country in the hands of one party, one family. It is against corruption…” the Parliamentary Affairs minister said.

He stated that the youth are against the family that has “captured” the party.

“Gen Z’s anger is directed towards those who are not capable but want to run the Government, against the family that has captured the party. Our government is dedicated to people. Gen Z is against Congress,” he remarked.

On being asked if youth feel connected to Gandhi, he replied, “Not at all.”

Responding to Gandhi’s remark, Rijiju continued, “Now, when they can’t win elections, they abuse the Election Commission, put allegations of vote chori. Youths are connected with Modi ji, the country stands with Modi ji.”

The minister shared the video of the interaction on his official X account with a caption that read, “India’s Gen-Z are… sensible, sincere, sharp, smart and steadfast in their mission to make India a great nation. They will not tolerate the party and the family who kept India poor for 6 decades. They will reject corrupt and inefficient politicians who only care for one family!(sic)”

Earlier on September 18, just after his second round of presentation on alleged voter fraud, Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi invoked India’s Gen Z and pledged his support in stopping “vote chori.” Asserting that the Gen Z of India will play a decisive role in safeguarding the Constitution and protecting democracy, Gandhi pledged to stand by them in their fight against alleged “vote theft.”

Gandhi had appealed to Gen Z in an X post, just hours after his fresh allegations of an attempt at vote theft in Karnataka’s Aland constituency. Addressing a press conference, he had claimed that there was an attempt to delete more than 6,000 voters’ names from the Aland constituency in Karnataka.
