PM Modi’s Rajya Sabha Retort: From Bittu to Indira Gandhi, Key Quotes

Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a sharp, wide-ranging reply in the Rajya Sabha, targeting the Opposition on dynastic politics, policy hypocrisy, and historical legacy while outlining his government’s vision.

Key Highlights from PM Modi’s Rajya Sabha Address

  • Cited Ravneet Bittu’s switch to BJP as an example of Congress’s dynastic neglect.
  • Credited his government for abolishing the Planning Commission as Indira Gandhi had suggested.
  • Countered corruption chants, saying they reflect the Opposition’s own past.
  • Outlined goals for a potential third term under ‘Modi’s Guarantee’.

On Dynastic Politics and Ravneet Bittu

PM Modi highlighted the recent defection of Congress MP Ravneet Singh Bittu to the BJP. He framed it as a consequence of dynastic politics within the Congress party.

“Ravneet Bittu’s grandfather (Beant Singh) was a former chief minister, his father was a minister… but because he was not from the family (the Gandhi family), he was not allowed to rise. He was insulted. Today he is with us,” PM Modi said.

Policy Courage and NITI Aayog

The Prime Minister contrasted his government’s actions with Congress’s alleged indecisiveness, specifically on economic planning bodies.

“Indira Gandhi had said that the Planning Commission should be abolished. But the Congress did not have the courage to do it. We abolished it and created NITI Aayog,” he stated.

Responding to ‘Corrupt’ Chants

Addressing the Opposition’s frequent interruptions, PM Modi turned the criticism back on them.

“When they chant ‘bhrashtachari’, it doesn’t affect us. They are remembering their own past, their own history. They are haunted by their own ghosts,” he remarked.

Vision for a Third Term

Looking ahead, the Prime Minister positioned a potential third term as foundational for India’s long-term future.

“This third term is not just for running the government. It is to lay the foundation for India’s next millennium. ‘Modi’s Guarantee’ is about fulfilling the dreams of 140 crore Indians and building a Viksit Bharat by 2047.”

Defending the Constitution’s Legacy

PM Modi invoked Dr. B.R. Ambedkar to counter allegations that his government threatens the Constitution, while also attacking the Congress over the Emergency.

“Those who did not allow Baba Saheb to win elections, those who opposed him, are now teaching us about the Constitution,” he asserted.

“The biggest attack on the Constitution and democracy was during the Emergency,” he added, targeting the Congress’s record.

The comprehensive address is expected to shape the political narrative as the government sets its agenda.
