Colonel Sobiya Qureshi Awarded Vishisht Seva Medal
Colonel Sobiya Qureshi, the officer who fronted the Army’s media briefing on ‘Operation Sindoor’ in Poonch, has been honoured with the Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM) for distinguished service. She was among 1,132 defence personnel recognised with gallantry and service awards on Republic Day eve.
Key Role in Operation Sindoor
Col Qureshi, serving as the Public Relations Officer for the Udhampur-based Northern Command, became the public face of the Army during the sensitive ‘Operation Sindoor’. This counter-terrorism operation was launched following a deadly ambush on December 21, 2023, in Poonch, which resulted in the martyrdom of four soldiers.
During the operation, security forces successfully eliminated three terrorists.
