It’s official now, KSI has taken over Dagenham and Redbridge. The YouTube star, whose real name is Olajide Olatunji, confirmed he is the new owner and says he has one clear dream: to take the club all the way to the Premier League. The 32-year-old made the surprise announcement just after 4 pm on social media. He shared a three-minute video showing old clips of himself playing with the club on FIFA, mixed with real match footage of Dagenham and Redbridge. In his message, he told fans he is serious about bringing the club back to better days.
Dagenham and Redbridge, formed in 1992, play at Victoria Road in East London. The team were relegated from the National League last season. Right now, they sit 13th in the National League South.
Even so, they made headlines earlier this season by signing former Liverpool and England striker Andy Carroll. KSI, who has more than 50 million followers across social media, now steps into football ownership. He is also known for co-owning Prime energy drink and working as a judge on Britain’s Got Talent. But this is his biggest sports move yet. He confirmed he will attend the game at Victoria Road this Saturday and will even stream the experience live.
Olajide Olatunji says he wants to take Dagenham and Redbridge to the Premier League
Speaking about his takeover, Olajide Olatunji shared his big dream in clear words. He wrote: “I’m so excited to start this journey. It’s gonna be a rollercoaster for sure, but I hope to bring Dagenham and Redbridge back to the glory days. ”
He added, “For those of you who are OG fans (Race to Division One), you’ll know that this is a full circle moment for me. So join me on this exhilarating adventure, and I’ll see you all at Victoria Road this Saturday! I’ll be streaming too haha.”
Later in the video, he said: “I want to take Dagenham and Redbridge to the Premier League. It’s obviously going to take time, but I’d say the realistic goal is getting out of this league and entering the National League.”
He also promised fans that he will stay connected. He said, “You can literally tweet me, and I will see it. You can let your frustrations out to me, or celebrate with me; I’m approachable.”
The club’s most famous current player is Andy Carroll. The 37-year-old striker scored six goals and gave two assists in 12 league games this season. However, he has not played since December after surgery on a fracture and ligament damage. He was also sent off on his debut in the FA Cup.
KSI is not the first online star to try football ownership. Spencer Owen created Hashtag United in 2016 and tried to rise through the leagues. Some fans online even compared KSI’s move to Ryan Reynolds’ success with Wrexham.
Now, all eyes are on Victoria Road. KSI says he is ready to fight for success. The next chapter for Dagenham and Redbridge begins this weekend.
