Patliputra University (PPU) is set to shift to its new sprawling campus, now known as ‘Nitish Nagar’, located at Bakhtiyarpur on the outskirts of Patna, in Aug after eight years of its creation and a prolonged wait. The move aims to expand its academic and administrative operations. The new campus is spread over a 10-acre plot and is being developed at an estimated cost of Rs 246 crore, promising modern infrastructure for students and faculty.
Once operational, the campus will not only offer improved facilities to existing students but will also make the university eligible for recognition under the
University Grants Commission’s (UGC) 12(B) clause. Currently recognised under the UGC’s 2(f) clause, the university will be able to apply for grants from the UGC and the central govt after completing the transition, vice chancellor Prof Upendra Prasad Singh said.
According to Singh, the new G+9 administrative block will house separate administrative sections, a meeting hall, registration office, finance and budget offices, floors for the vice chancellor and pro vice chancellor, a VIP lounge, examination section and evaluation room.
The second academic block, also G+9, will include six examination halls, three invigilator rooms, four reading rooms, a computer room, separate classrooms for postgraduate students from arts, science and commerce streams, a state-of-the-art library, a faculty area with seven cabins and dedicated rooms for heads of departments.
The block will also have conference and tutorial rooms, he said.
PPU registrar Abu Bakar said the campus will also feature a modern conference hall and an indoor games complex. The G+2 building will accommodate the proctor’s office, admission office, security rooms and seating space for 500 people.
The G+2 indoor games building will include facilities such as a badminton court, yoga hall, changing rooms, store, cafeteria and kitchen. He said the new campus will better accommodate the growing number of students and faculty while positioning the institution for further academic and infrastructural advancement.
