DPO held for accepting bribe in Kishanganj

The Special Vigilance Unit (SVU) on Friday arrested Anita Kumari, district programme officer (DPO) of the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) in Kishanganj district’s Thakurganj, for accepting a bribe of Rs50,000.

She allegedly threatened to suspend an official unless he paid the bribe. The SVU team caught her and registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

According to a statement issued by the SVU, “Nagendra Kumar, a resident of Jagdishpur Tiyari under Noorsarai police station area in Nalanda district, filed a complaint with the SVU, Patna. Nagendra was posted as child development programme officer (CDPO) in Kochadhaman, Kishanganj.

He alleged that the DPO was threatening to frame charges against him and get him suspended. To avoiding this action, she demanded a bribe of Rs10 lakh. Based on the complaint, the vigilance team laid a trap and caught Anita while accepting Rs50,000 as the first instalment of the bribe. ”

An eight-member team, led by SVU DSP Luv Kumar, conducted the operation.

The SVU registered case (number 08/2026) under Section 7 of the Anti-Corruption Act in this matter. During a search operation at her house, Rs4 lakh in cash was also recovered. It is suspected that the amount was also a bribe money. The accused officer will be produced in the vigilance court in Patna on Saturday.
