UGC declares Rajasthan institute fake, warns students against admission

India’s higher education regulator has flagged concerns over unrecognised institutes misleading students. Aspirants have been advised to verify credentials before taking admission. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has identified a Rajasthan-based institute as fake and unauthorised to grant degrees.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has once again cautioned students and parents after identifying a Rajasthan-based institute as “fake” and unauthorised to grant degrees.

The move is part of the Commission’s continued efforts to curb the spread of unrecognised educational institutions across the country.

RAJEEV GANDHI INSTITUTE IN ALWAR DECLARED UNRECOGNISED

According to the latest notification, the Rajeev Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management located in Bhiwadi, Alwar district, has been added to the UGC’s list of fake universities.

The Commission clarified that the institute does not fall under the purview of recognised institutions as defined in the UGC Act, 1956.

It further stated that the institute is not authorised to award any degree, and any qualification issued by it so far will not be considered valid for higher education, employment, or government jobs.

STRONG ADVISORY ISSUED TO STUDENTS AND PARENTS

In a firm advisory, the UGC has urged students and guardians to exercise caution and avoid taking admission in such “self-styled” institutions. The Commission emphasised that enrolling in unrecognised institutes can have serious academic and career consequences.

EARLIER WARNING REITERATED

This is not the first time the institute has come under scrutiny. The UGC had already listed it among fake universities in a prior notification released earlier in 2026.

The latest update reinforces the Commission’s stance and reiterates its warning to the public.

STATE-WISE LIST OF FAKE UNIVERSITIES RELEASED

The UGC has also shared a state-wise list of institutions identified as fake. These include multiple entities across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and other states. Some notable entries include:

  • Delhi: Several self-styled universities operating under misleading names
  • Uttar Pradesh: Institutions such as Gandhi, Hindi Vidyapith and others
  • Maharashtra: Raja Arabic University, Nagpur
  • Andhra Pradesh: Bible Open University of India
  • West Bengal: Indian Institute of Alternative Medicine

Additionally, one institution each from Haryana, Jharkhand, Arunachal Pradesh, and Puducherry has also been flagged.

DEGREES FROM FAKE INSTITUTES NOT VALID

The UGC has reiterated that degrees awarded by these unauthorised institutions hold no value.

Such qualifications are not accepted for government employment, higher studies, or any official purpose.

GOVERNMENT ACTION AGAINST FAKE UNIVERSITIES

Apart from issuing public notices, the government has been taking strict action against such entities.

This includes filing FIRs, issuing show-cause notices, and warning institutions found violating norms.

Students are advised to verify the authenticity of any university through the official UGC website before applying, to avoid falling prey to fraudulent institutions.
