PM Modi assures CBSE taking steps for students post exam cancellation in West Asia

While addressing the Parliament on Monday Prime Minsiter Narendra Modi discussed the ongoing West Asia crisis, he highlighted its impact on Indian students and the steps taken by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to ensure their safety. He informed the House that CBSE examinations scheduled in parts of the West Asia region have been cancelled, keeping in view the rapidly evolving situation on the ground.

“The safety of our students is our top priority, and every necessary step is being taken to ensure their future is not affected,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in Parliament.

CBSE has issued timely notifications in recent days in view of the situation affecting exam centres in the West Asia region. The board has been closely monitoring developments and taking decisions based on the prevailing conditions on the ground.

SAFETY OF STUDENTS REMAINS PRIORITY

CBSE has cancelled examinations in parts of West Asia following the escalation of the conflict in the region towards the beginning of March 2026. As the situation continued to worsen in early March, the board issued a series of notifications, advising schools and students and closely monitoring conditions on the ground.

In its latest update in mid-March, CBSE announced that examinations scheduled in affected centres would not be conducted, citing safety concerns and limited access to exam venues.

Alongside this, the board also introduced an alternative assessment scheme for impacted students. The evaluation is expected to be based on internal assessments, practicals, and previous academic performance, ensuring that students do not face academic loss due to the disruption.

These steps were taken as precautionary measures amid ongoing uncertainty in the region, with CBSE emphasising continuity in education while prioritising student safety.
