Supergirl trailer: Milly Alcock, Jason Momoa lead James Gunn’s gritty superhero film

The trailer of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow was released on March 31. The upcoming superhero action film reveals a gripping narrative centred on Supergirl’s quest to save her beloved dog, Krypto.

The trailer begins with Kara Zor-El aka Supergirl (Milly Alcock) living in solitude with her pet dog Krypto. Just before the adversity strikes, Supergirl expresses her bond with Krypto, and says, “At least Krypto and I have each other.”

In a dramatic turn of events, the villainous alien Krem of the Yellow Hills, portrayed by Matthias Schoenaerts, poisons Krypto with a dart, propelling Supergirl into action.

The film’s director, James Gunn, has previously mentioned how Supergirl diverges from its predecessor, indicating that this latest chapter will offer a “more edgier and robust portrayal” of the lead. Reflecting on viewer feedback from early Superman screenings—where a moment involving Ultraman and Krypto was cut — Gunn made it clear that the stakes are being raised for the new project. He expressed confidence that audiences are now ready to face the difficult trials Krypto undergoes here, describing Supergirl as “a way more rock & roll film” featuring a far more resilient protagonist.

The trailer also features the soulful 1966 Motown classic, What Becomes of the Brokenhearted by Jimmy Ruffin, which serves as a poignant musical backdrop. Fans also get a thrilling first look at Jason Momoa stepping into the role of the infamous intergalactic bounty hunter, Lobo.

Lobo and Supergirl’s sharp-witted exchange in the middle of a high-octane sequence provides a light-hearted contrast to the film’s heavier themes. “Aren’t you the ditz from that dive bar?” Lobo asks, prompting Supergirl to quickly reply, “Funny, that’s what I’ve been calling you.”

Furthermore, the trailer provides a brief look at David Corenswet as Superman, interacting with Supergirl through an interplanetary Zoom call. Superman checks in, asking, “I was just touching base to see when you’re coming back,” establishing a connection between the two characters despite the vast distance separating them.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is set for a theatrical release in cinemas and IMAX on June 26, 2026 in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
