Varun Dhawan has been a one of the most lowed new-age actors in the business having delivered films like Badlapur, Judwaa 2, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania. But post Kalank, he has struggled at the ticket window. In an attempt to revive himself he even tried his hand with the action genre but both Baby John and Citadel: Honey Bunny didn’t get the acceptance as expected from the audience. Varun then turned towards a genre where he has been most accepted by his audience- the rom-cons. He has delivered hits like Main Tera Hero, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, Badrinath Ki Dulhania in this genre. THis time he regrouped with Shahank for Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari and had Janhvi Kapoor, Sanya Malhotra and Rohit Saraf on board. But the film got marred on two fronts- one was it clashed with Rishab Shetty’s Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1 which in its first week has minted more than Rs 336 crore,the Hindi version itself has contributed Rs 108. 75 crore. The other front is the reviews and word of mouth publicity; they both were mixed- fans and critics alike didn’t enjoy the fare that was offered to them. The film on its opening day ( 2nd October) collected Rs 9. 25 crore, on day 2 it was Rs 5. 5 crore, Day 3 was Rs 7. 5 crore, Day 4 was Rs 7. 75 crore, Day 5 and Day 6 were Rs 3. 25 crore respectively , Day 7 was Rs 2. 25 crore and Day 8 was Rs 2 crore as per early estimates by Sancilk. With that the total collection of the film crosses Rs 40 crore mark and stands at Rs 40. 75 crore. And with that the film has finally crossed Baby John’s lifetime collection of Rs 39. 5 crore. Sunny Sanskari’s Varun’s second lowest grosser. It would be interesting to see how the film fares from here and if it can cross October’s collection of Rs 45. 6 crore and reach Badlapur’s Rs 50. 09 and Main Tera Hero’s Rs 50. 91 crore collection mark.
Varun will be next seen in Border 2 with Sunny Deol, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty, it will be followed by Hai Jawani To Ishy Hona Hai with his dad David Dahwan,
Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde. He also has No Entry 2 with Arjun Kapoor and one more male lead.
