Sunny Sanskari box office Day 6: Varun-Janhvi film struggles, yet to cross Rs 40 crore

Director Shashank Khaitan’s ‘Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari’ is struggling to even touch Rs 40 crore at the box office. After being hit by Rishab Shetty’s ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’, the film starring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor added only Rs 3 crore on Tuesday (Day 6).

As per early estimates, the film earned Rs 36.25 crore. Rishab Shetty’s ‘Kantara Chapter 1’, has emerged as a box office juggernaut, raking in Rs 290 crore in six days, nearly 80 per cent more than the romantic drama.

While ‘Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari’ was allotted around 3,021 shows on release, the count dropped to 2,802 by day six. In comparison, ‘Kantara Chapter 1’ launched with over 8,000 shows across Kannada, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam, and is still going strong with 7,887 screenings nationwide. Notably, Shetty’s film was filmed on a budget of Rs 150 crore, while Khaitan’s production reportedly cost Rs 80 crore.

For Varun Dhawan, ‘Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari’ arrives at a crucial juncture as he seeks a strong box office revival. His last undisputed hit was ‘Sui Dhaaga’ (2018), which grossed Rs 125 crore worldwide on a Rs 40 crore budget. Since then, films like ‘Kalank’, ‘Street Dancer 3D’, and ‘Coolie No. 1’ have failed to leave a mark.

With ‘Kantara Chapter 1’ dominating the box office and show counts steadily shrinking, the big question now is whether ‘Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari’ will manage to hit its breakeven point in the coming week.

The film is a romantic comedy and is set against a wedding backdrop. It also features Sanya Malhotra, Rohit Saraf and Maniesh Paul in important roles. ‘Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari’ is directed by Shashank Khaitan and produced by Dharma Productions.
