Ranggasthala Studios has unveiled the first look of its upcoming Kannada feature film Shankarabharana, produced by Shine Sharsh Shetty in partnership with Divakar Shetty. Deeply rooted in the cultural heartbeat of coastal Karnataka, the film promises a poignant, grounded narrative that draws from the lived realities of everyday heroes.
Shankarabharana follows the life of a bus driver and his vehicle, fondly named “Shankarabharana.” What begins as a routine assignment on a new route to a remote village gradually transforms into an emotional journey, shaped by unexpected detours, quiet resilience and the people who enter his world along the way.
Set against the textured landscapes of the Udupi–Mangalore belt, the film captures the region’s colloquial humour, warmth of community and the understated strength found in its people.
The narrative pays tribute to men who may not raise their voices but shoulder extraordinary responsibility every single day — a subtle, heartfelt ode to unsung working-class heroes.
Shine Sharsh Shetty leads the film in a role that reconnects him with his coastal roots. Known for his impactful performances in Ondu Motteya Kathe, James and Kantara, Shine brings emotional depth and lived-in authenticity to the character of the bus driver, marking another grounded turn in his filmography.
Co-producer Divakar Shetty, a serial entrepreneur and one of the earliest believers in the vision behind Ranggasthala Studios, partnered with Shine at the foundational stage of the banner. Hailing from the same hometown, Divakar’s trust in the studio’s philosophy and his strategic conviction have played a key role in shaping Ranggasthala Studios’ commitment to rooted, socially reflective storytelling.
With its first look setting the tone for a soulful, regionally grounded drama, Shankarabharana positions itself as a film that blends cultural specificity with universal emotions. Further details about the cast, crew and release timeline are expected to be announced soon.
