Dhurandhar goof? Fans say Pakistan mall shown in Ranveer film is located in Mumbai

Nearly three months after Dhurandhar hit theatres, and after the film became the biggest Hindi blockbuster ever, an amusing theory about the Ranveer Singh-led espionage thriller has resurfaced online. As anticipation builds for the sequel, Dhurandhar: The Revenge, set to release on March 19, fans revisiting the original film have spotted what many feel is a filming oversight that has now gone viral.

The scene in question appears in the song Gehra Hua, featuring Ranveer Singh and Sara Arjun strolling through a shopping mall supposedly located in Karachi, Pakistan. However, sharp-eyed viewers soon realised that the location looked strikingly familiar. What the film presents as a Pakistani mall is actually Inorbit Mall in Malad West, Mumbai, they have claimed – a discovery that has sparked a wave of witty reactions across social media.

The moment has since become a talking point among fans, with many saying the setting briefly disrupts the film’s otherwise immersive narrative.

Which scene sparked the viral reaction?

The buzz centres on a segment in Gehra Hua where Singh and Arjun wander through a brightly lit shopping complex. While the storyline places the characters in Pakistan, viewers identified the setting as Inorbit Mall, a popular shopping destination in Mumbai’s Malad West.

Several users on X shared screenshots and clips from the scene, highlighting recognisable features of the mall. One user joked about the sudden shift in geography, writing that the film seemed to move “from Karachi straight to Malad in seconds.” The discovery quickly gained traction, with more viewers revisiting the scene to confirm the location.

What other details did viewers notice?

As fans examined the scene more closely, additional background elements drew attention. Screenshots circulating online showed statues of Nataraja, Ganesha and Buddha displayed inside a shop behind the actors.

Some viewers questioned how such items appeared in a setting meant to represent a Pakistani mall. A Reddit user pointed out the incongruity, asking how idols of Hindu deities and Buddhist figures would realistically be sold in that location within the film’s narrative context.

Despite the criticism, some viewers noted that such continuity slips occasionally occur during filming, particularly in large-scale productions where focus often remains on performances and story progression rather than background details.

Where else was Dhurandhar filmed?

The irony of the viral goof lies in the extensive effort the production team reportedly invested in recreating other locations. Production designer Saini S Johray revealed that Lyari, the primary backdrop of the film, was not shot in India at all.

Instead, the production built a detailed replica on a six-acre set in Bangkok, Thailand. Johray said the design process took nearly three months of planning and breakdown to ensure the setting felt authentic on screen.

Apart from Bangkok, the film was shot across several Indian locations, including Ladakh, Ludhiana, Chandigarh and Amritsar. As conversations about the mall scene continue online, the moment has added an unexpected layer to discussions about the film ahead of its upcoming sequel.
Dhurandhar: The Revenge is scheduled to release on March 19, with paid previews slated for March 18.
