We come to understand the character—his upbringing, his situation, his story—which builds familiarity with him. Without this, Hamza would have remained a unidimensional character, a spy like any other, someone one might appreciate for the mission but not truly empathise with.
It reveals that Jaskirat comes from a lineage of army officers, with both his father and grandfather having served in the Indian Army—revealing any more would be a major spoiler. Hamza’s combat skills had already shown shades of a trained fighter, both armed and unarmed.
