Taapsee Pannu’s courtroom drama Assi continued its modest run at the box office, registering only a slight rise in collections on Day 2. While weekend momentum was expected to provide a stronger push, the numbers suggest otherwise. The film, directed by Anubhav Sinha, saw just a marginal uptick on Saturday, keeping its overall performance subdued.
The film, which opened on Friday with an estimated net of Rs 1 crore, added about Rs 1.60 crore on Saturday, taking its two-day total to Rs 2.60 crore, as per early estimates. The movie, directed by Anubhav Sinha and featuring a notable ensemble cast, was released on February 20.
Saturday’s box office figures reflect a mild but notable improvement in audience turnout. Data from the Hindi 2D screenings show that the overall occupancy reached 12.03 per cent across the day. Morning shows started slow at just 5.18 per cent, but numbers improved steadily through the afternoon and evening, with night shows peaking at 17.69 per cent occupancy. The trend suggests that positive word of mouth could potentially support the film’s performance in the coming days.
Starring Taapsee Pannu in the lead, the film also brings together actors like Revathi, Manoj Pahwa, Seema Pahwa, Kumud Mishra, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Naseeruddin Shah, and Kani Kusruti. The story follows a lawyer who remains steadfast in her pursuit of justice, a theme that aims to resonate with viewers beyond box office numbers.
Despite a modest opening, the moderate growth in Saturday’s collections suggests that the audience response may strengthen as word of mouth spreads. The cast’s performances and the film’s subject matter have drawn attention, potentially influencing attendance as the days progress.
This film marks the third collaboration between Taapsee and Anubhav. The duo previously teamed up for the critically acclaimed films Thappad and Mulk.
Assi released in theatres on February 20.
