Anne Hathaway has shared her first reaction to the script of The Devil Wears Prada 2, and it centres on one question, what did Meryl Streep think? Reprising her role as Andy Sachs after nearly two decades, Hathaway revealed that her immediate response upon reading the script was curiosity about Streep’s opinion.
Speaking at a fan event in Tokyo on April 6, Hathaway said she later learned that Streep had already read the script and “loved it”, which heightened her own expectations. She added that once she read it, the story exceeded what she had hoped for, signalling strong anticipation around the sequel.
What did Anne Hathaway say about the script?
Hathaway described the script as going beyond long-standing fan expectations. She noted that audiences have often speculated about where characters like Andy, Miranda, Emily and Nigel might be now, but credited writer Aline Brosh McKenna with crafting a storyline that surpasses those assumptions.
Who is returning for the sequel?
The film reunites key members of the original cast, including Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci, alongside Streep and Hathaway. Director David Frankel and McKenna also return, maintaining continuity with the original film.
Are there any new additions?
The sequel introduces several new cast members, including Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, Justin Theroux, Lucy Liu and BJ Novak. Meanwhile, Tracie Thoms and Tibor Feldman reprise their roles from the original film.
Produced by Wendy Finerman, the film is backed by 20th Century Studios and is scheduled for a theatrical release on May 1, 2026. The Tokyo event brought together returning and new cast members, underlining the continued interest in the franchise as it revisits its characters after 20 years.
