IIT Bombay Student Dies by Suicide in Hostel
A 21-year-old third-year BTech student at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay died by suicide in his hostel room on Monday, February 3, police confirmed. This marks the second such tragic incident at the premier institute in recent months.
Key Details of the Incident
- The student was a resident of Hostel 16 on the IIT Bombay campus.
- Police were alerted around 8:30 PM on Monday.
- No suicide note was found at the scene.
- An investigation is currently underway.
“We received information that a student had died by suicide in his hostel room. A team reached the spot and the body was sent for postmortem,” a police official said.
Second Tragedy in Months
This incident follows the death of an 18-year-old first-year student who also died by suicide in his hostel room in December last year. The institute has not yet issued an official statement regarding the latest incident.
