No fuel shortage in India, supply chains stable: Hardeep Singh Puri in Parliament

The government on Thursday said there is no shortage of petrol, diesel, kerosene or LPG in the country, assuring that fuel availability remains stable, and supply chains are functioning smoothly.

Speaking in Parliament, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said India has adequate fuel stocks, and there is no cause for concern over availability.

“There is no shortage of diesel, petrol or kerosene. Their availability is fully assured and supply chains across the country are functioning smoothly,” the minister said.

Puri added that the overall fuel supply position remains stable and comfortable, with inventories sufficient to meet demand across the country.

The minister also addressed concerns around LPG availability, stating that domestic LPG supply remains fully protected, even amid global geopolitical tensions and disruptions in energy markets.

According to him, India has significantly diversified its energy sourcing in recent years to reduce dependence on any single region.

Earlier, about 60% of India’s LPG imports came from Gulf countries, but the government has since expanded sourcing options to ensure supply security and reduce vulnerability to regional disruptions.

The assurance from the government comes amid growing concerns about global energy supply disruptions and rising geopolitical tensions, which have pushed up crude oil prices and triggered fears of shortages in several markets.

However, the government maintained that India’s fuel supply chain remains robust, and that the country has sufficient reserves and diversified import sources to manage potential disruptions.

Officials said the government continues to closely monitor the global energy situation and will take necessary steps to ensure uninterrupted fuel availability across the country.
