India’s Mobile Phone Exports Hit $1.8 Billion in September 2025

India’s Mobile Phone Exports Hit Record $1.8 Billion in September 2025

India’s mobile phone exports surged to an estimated $1.8 billion in September 2025, marking a massive 95% year-on-year growth according to industry data from the India Cellular & Electronics Association (ICEA).

Key Takeaways

  • September 2025 exports: $1.8 billion (95% YoY growth)
  • April-September 2025 total: $13.5 billion (60% growth)
  • US accounts for 70% of exports, up from 37% last year
  • Full-year projection: $35 billion for FY 2025-26

Strong Performance Despite Seasonal Trends

September’s impressive performance came despite August and September typically being low-export months due to production adjustments and seasonal shipment cycles. The sustained strength demonstrates India’s robust mobile manufacturing ecosystem.

US Dominates Export Destinations

The United States has emerged as the dominant market for Indian mobile phones, accounting for nearly 70% of total exports during April-September 2025. Other top destinations include the UAE, Austria, Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.

Exports to the US surged from $3.1 billion in April-September 2024 to an estimated $9.4 billion in the same period this year – a remarkable 200% growth that underscores India’s role as a trusted supplier for global smartphone brands.

Industry Leadership Perspective

Pankaj Mohindroo, Chairman of ICEA, stated: “The sustained rise in exports reflects the strong foundation of India’s mobile phone manufacturing ecosystem. Global value chains are now deeply anchoring here. The surge in exports to the advanced economies demonstrates global trust in India’s capability to deliver quality, scale, and reliability.”

Mohindroo added that while “India’s mobile phone industry is firing on all cylinders,” the next growth phase depends on sustaining scale and competitiveness while deepening the component and sub-assembly ecosystem within the country.
