India and the European Union have finalised a historic Free Trade Agreement (FTA) after 16 years of negotiations. Announced by Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, the pact is set to dramatically boost trade and investment between the two economies.

  • Engineering products, chemicals, and pharmaceuticals.
  • Marine products, mangoes, grapes, and Basmati rice.
  • Services sectors like IT and healthcare.

Safeguards and Next Steps

Minister Goyal stressed that the deal has strong protections for sensitive sectors like agriculture and dairy. The FTA also covers intellectual property, sustainable development, and dispute resolution.
