Hindustan Zinc Gets Licence for Tungsten Mining in Andhra Pradesh

Hindustan Zinc Secures Tungsten Exploration Licence in Andhra Pradesh

Hindustan Zinc Ltd (HZL) has received a formal composite licence from the Andhra Pradesh government to explore and mine a tungsten block, marking a significant diversification beyond its core zinc, lead, and silver operations.

Key Details

  • Licence received on November 15, 2025
  • Composite licence allows exploration and subsequent mining
  • Company was declared preferred bidder through a competitive auction

“Hindustan Zinc Ltd has been officially announced as the successful bidder for a tungsten and associated mineral block in Andhra Pradesh, following the receipt of the formal composite licence from the state government,” the company stated.

A composite mining licence is a two-stage concession that grants both exploration rights and mining rights if exploration proves successful.

Strategic Expansion

Company CEO Arun Misra emphasized the significance: “This milestone marks another step forward in Hindustan Zinc’s journey of expanding its mineral footprint and contributing to the nation’s self-reliance in critical and strategic minerals.”

HZL, the world’s largest integrated zinc producer and among the top five global silver producers, supplies to over 40 countries and holds approximately 77% market share in India’s primary zinc market.
