Florida man chases AT&T salesman, shoots him after death threats; held for attempted murder

The shooting took place on February 18 at Providence Townhomes in Brandon, where the victim and two female colleagues were going door-to-door offering telecom services.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, the accused, Reginald McGee, 38, became verbally aggressive and confronted the group.

Investigators said McGee threatened them and chased the male salesman as he tried to escape, shouting that he would kill him.

During the pursuit, McGee allegedly pulled out a handgun and opened fire, continuing to shoot until he ran out of ammunition. Surveillance footage captured multiple gunshots and the victims’ screams as the incident unfolded.

Deputies responding to a 911 call found the injured salesman conscious but bleeding from gunshot wounds to his leg, calf and foot. He was rushed to the hospital and is expected to recover, officials said.

Authorities later located McGee near his residence, where he surrendered to deputies. He initially claimed self-defence but later admitted to chasing and shooting at the victim, investigators said.

“This was a completely unnecessary escalation that left a man seriously injured simply for doing his job,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said.

McGee has been arrested and charged with attempted second-degree murder, aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, and discharging a firearm in public. He remains in custody.
