Apple said to roll out iOS 26.3.1 update for iPhones as its Apple Experience event nears

Apple is preparing another iPhone software update just as it readies a fresh round of product announcements expected in early March. According to data seen in MacRumors’ visitor logs, which have often flagged upcoming releases ahead of time, the company has begun internal testing of iOS 26.3.1, a sign that the update could reach users soon.

The software is expected to be a minor release, focused largely on bug fixes and security patches rather than new features. Such builds typically arrive within a short window once testing activity shows up in public-facing logs, putting a release likely within the next two weeks.

The timing places iOS 26.3.1 between iOS 26.3, which rolled out earlier this month, and the much larger iOS 26.4 update anticipated later in March or early April. While iOS 26.4 is expected to introduce bigger changes across services such as Apple Music, Podcasts and CarPlay, the upcoming 26.3.1 release could be a maintenance update designed to keep iPhones stable ahead of a busy launch period.

Apple followed a similar playbook last month with iOS 26.2.1, which delivered fixes and quietly added support for new hardware, including the second-generation AirTag. As a result, there is speculation that iOS 26.3.1 could also include behind-the-scenes support for products that Apple is expected to unveil soon. However, there is no confirmation so far, and Apple has not commented on the contents of the update.

The software activity comes as the company is reportedly planning a three-day stretch of announcements from March 2 through March 4. Instead of a traditional keynote, Apple is expected to brief select journalists during an “Apple Experience” event across New York, London and Shanghai, with hands-on sessions scheduled for March 4.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the upcoming announcements could include at least five debuts spanning hardware, software and chips, even without a single headline presentation. Among the products believed to be nearing launch are a new lower-cost MacBook, updated MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models powered by Apple’s next-generation chips, refreshed iPads, and possibly a new Studio Display.

Gurman has said the entry-level MacBook is especially likely, pointing to colour cues in Apple’s event artwork that line up with earlier reports. He has also noted that several current devices, including the iPhone 16e and select Mac and iPad models, are running low on inventory at Apple Stores — a pattern that often precedes hardware refreshes.

For now, iOS 26.3.1 appears to be a quiet but timely update, meant to bridge the gap between larger software milestones while Apple turns its attention to new launches. You can stay tuned to India Today Tech for all the updates related to Apple.
