Bihar’s Model schools to prepare students for NEET, JEE; apply now

The Bihar government prepared to launch one Adarsh Madhyamik Vidyalaya, or model school, in every block of the state. This major step aimed to start Class 9 in these schools from the 2026-27 academic session, providing a new opportunity for students across rural and urban areas.

Admissions would depend on an entrance examination scheduled for March 11. Students qualifying in this exam would be enroled according to a merit list, with the goal of ensuring fairness and transparency in the selection process.

Online applications for the entrance test were accepted until February 20, following an extension by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT).

The earlier deadline was February 15, but it was extended to provide more students with a chance to apply.

FOCUS ON SAAT NISHCHAY-3

This initiative formed part of the government’s Saat Nishchay-3 programme. A total of 534 blocks across Bihar were targeted to receive these model schools.

The main objective was to prepare students systematically for competitive exams like NEET, JEE, and Olympiads, beginning at the Class 9 level.

  • Each school would offer teaching by experienced teachers and subject experts.
  • Facilities would include smart classrooms, a modern library, and a state-of-the-art laboratory.
  • Regular test series and achievement analysis were to be conducted.

FEATURES OF MODEL SCHOOLS

Students in these schools could access doubt resolution sessions and individualised career counselling. The learning environment was described as disciplined and academic, aiming to foster focus and growth.

According to the state government, “The state government says that this new initiative will provide rural and block-level students with access to quality education and high-level competitive exam preparation all in one place.”

The schools would use technology to enhance lessons and provide students with up-to-date resources and information, supporting their journey toward higher education and career readiness.

By extending the application deadline, the government sought to ensure that no student missed out on the chance due to time constraints. SCERT acted on these instructions to widen participation.

The model schools aimed to bridge educational gaps between urban and rural students, supporting talents who might otherwise have limited exposure to quality coaching and facilities.

The academic session for the admitted batch would start in 2026–27, giving enough time for preparation and curriculum planning by the authorities.

The initiative highlighted the government’s focus on systematic, merit-based education reform at the block level, with a special emphasis on competitive exam support for secondary students.
