AI chip crisis now brings ‘bad news’ for Valve Steam Deck OLED fans

Valve has warned that the Steam Deck OLED may be out of stock “intermittently in some regions due to memory and storage shortages. ” With this statement, the company has provided an explanation for supply issues that have affected the US and other regions for several days. The company updated its Steam Deck website to inform customers of the ongoing availability challenges. The announcement follows Valve’s recent delay of the Steam Machine, Steam Frame, and Steam Controller from a planned early 2026 shipping window, which is also attributed to a memory and storage crunch.

In a post from earlier this month, Valve said, “We have work to do to land on concrete pricing and launch dates that we can confidently announce, being mindful of how quickly the circumstances around both of those things can change.”

The company aims to launch the new hardware sometime in the first half of 2026 and is working to finalise its plans

Valve’s website also notes that the 256GB LCD Steam Deck is no longer in production, a change which was announced last year.

Other gaming companies that have been affected by the AI chip shortage

Valve is not the only company affected by the ongoing RAM shortage. Recently, Bloomberg reported that

Sony may delay the PlayStation 6’s release to 2028 or 2029 due to ongoing supply constraints. The situation could also prompt Nintendo to raise the Switch 2’s price later this year.

Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa addressed the issue after the company released its latest financial results, saying the shortages

Furukawa said. he added.
