A young woman police constable in Telangana is fighting for her life after being deliberately run over by a suspected smuggling gang’s car during an early morning operation.

The incident occurred in Nirmal district on Friday when a police team attempted to intercept a vehicle believed to be transporting ganja near the interstate border with Maharashtra.

Constable’s Brave Attempt to Stop Fleeing Vehicle

Constable B Anusha, 23, was part of a team from Nirmal Rural police station conducting routine vehicle checks at the Kuntala border area. Upon spotting the police, the driver of the suspected car accelerated in an attempt to escape.

In a brave but tragic move, Anusha positioned herself in front of the vehicle to stop it. The driver, however, showed no hesitation and ran over the constable before speeding away from the scene.

Critical Condition and Statewide Manhunt

Anusha sustained severe injuries in the attack. She was first rushed to a local hospital in Nirmal before being transferred to a corporate hospital in Hyderabad for advanced medical care. Doctors have described her condition as critical.

Telangana Police have registered a case and launched an intensive manhunt to apprehend the accused driver and other members of the suspected smuggling gang. The investigation is focusing on identifying the vehicle and tracing the escape route.

The incident has highlighted the dangers faced by police personnel, especially those deployed in border areas where smuggling activities are prevalent.
