Zelenskyy Invites Trump to Kyiv After ‘Very Good’ Davos Meeting on War

Zelenskyy Calls Davos Meeting With Trump ‘Very Good’, Invites Him to Kyiv

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described his meeting with Donald Trump in Davos as “very good” and publicly invited the Republican frontrunner to visit Kyiv, urging him to share his plan to end the war with Russia.

Key Takeaways

  • Zelenskyy invited Donald Trump to Ukraine to discuss his plan for ending the war.
  • The Ukrainian leader warned Vladimir Putin he would be “held accountable” for actions since 2014.
  • US Secretary of State Antony Blinken reaffirmed unwavering American support during a separate meeting.
  • Zelenskyy stressed an urgent need for more weapons, ammunition, and air defense systems.

An Invitation to Kyiv and a Call for a Plan

Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, President Zelenskyy confirmed he had a “very strong conversation” with former US President Donald Trump. He extended a direct invitation for Trump to visit Kyiv.

“I invited him to Ukraine, to Kyiv. If he can come, I am sure he can help,” Zelenskyy told reporters.

He emphasized the importance of Trump publicly presenting his idea for ending the conflict, suggesting it could become a “very popular idea” if supported by the American people.

A Direct Warning to Putin

Zelenskyy also issued a stark warning to Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has been absent from public view recently.

“I want to say to Putin: Putin, you will answer for everything you have done, starting from 2014,” he declared, referencing Russia’s annexation of Crimea and support for separatists.

He reiterated that Putin would be held accountable for his actions.

Blinken Reaffirms US Support, But More Aid Needed

During the forum, Zelenskyy also met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who assured him of continued American backing.

“We are with you, we will stay with you,” Blinken told the Ukrainian president.

While expressing gratitude for allied support, Zelenskyy outlined Ukraine’s pressing military needs to secure victory.

“We need more weapons, we need more ammunition, we need more air defense systems,” he stated firmly. “We need to win this war, and we will win this war.”

The meetings in Davos were part of Zelenskyy’s ongoing diplomatic push to sustain global support for Ukraine’s defense against the Russian invasion .
